HAYYAN COMMUNITY MOSQUE

Sharjah, UAE

Status: Under Construction

Location: Sharjah, United Arab Emirates

Team: Mariam Issoufou, Aaron Nkhoma, Assoumana Attahirou, Barira Boureima

The Hayyan Community Mosque carries through the design language of the Hayyan Residences, inspired by traditional Sharjah coral stone architecture. It complements the overall masterplan with its focus on community and bringing people together. A mosque is a community space by default, a space for Hayyan residents to pray and have celebrations. The mosque will be a place for personal and collective reflection, manifested through multiple spatial options and scales that offer different levels of privacy and intimacy.

  • The scheme is an aggregation of large prayer halls for the community to pray together and smaller, more intimate rooms for meditation and reflection. The project is thus designed as a multimodal space for family, individuals, and the wider community to be in contemplation together or as individuals.
