As part of the Hayyan Masterplan in Sharjah, the townhouses and villas reconcile contemporary living needs with traditional architecture that is both climate-responsive and culturally rooted. Designed to attract families seeking a strong sense of community, the homes open onto safe, secure pedestrian-scaled lanes that lead to intimate courtyards—ideal for social interaction, neighborly gatherings, and watching children at play. Public play spaces are embedded within low-traffic environments, prioritizing safety and creating a family-friendly neighborhood fabric.

The design of the Hayyan Residences proposes an urban experience that is contemporary and forward-looking, while remaining deeply connected to the memory of place and people. Informed by Sharjah’s rich architectural heritage and its expanding body of contemporary work, the project reinterprets traditional forms and materials—particularly coral stone—to meet the demands of modern living. Principles of natural ventilation and climate responsiveness shape building massing and interior layouts, ensuring comfort while reinforcing cultural and environmental continuity.
Traditional wall construction featuring latticed coral patterns is reimagined at selected locations, introducing a contemporary language rooted in local craft. Glass light blocks serve as a new incarnation of coral stone, filtering daylight while maintaining privacy. These updated walls become expressive architectural elements, offering opportunities for designed patterns and integrated outdoor lighting. As evening falls, the homes contribute to the illumination of neighborhood life, enhancing the atmosphere of night-time activity and reinforcing a sense of cohesion across the development.
Reinterpreting the typical building blocks with shared walls, the upper volumes of the homes are shifted to form internal courts and balconies that draw light deep into the plan while safeguarding privacy. This clustered configuration creates layered thresholds and shaded outdoor rooms, enabling ventilation and social connection without exposure. The resulting composition balances density with openness, articulating a final form that is both contextually grounded and distinctly contemporary. -
