BBC Podcast Documentary on Designing a Museum

Mariam Issoufou talks to Olivia Humphreys about Bët-bi, our museum project which is about to go under construction in Senegal.

The BBC’s Olivia Humphreys and her team followed Issoufou in 2025 as the Bët-bi Museum rolled towards construction. The team interviewed Issoufou over several calls and in-person site vists. One of the experts asked to speak about the importance of Issoufou’s work and approach is Professor Lesley Lokko, founder and director of the African Futures Institute in Ghana.

Lokko said: “She is fundamentally proud of where she comes from. It’s not a place to be obliterated and remade in the image of something else. It is the starting point of what she does. There is a deep sense of pride, connectedness and belonging that makes me proud when I see her work.”
